The LFV R&D Centre is a national hub for testing and developing the next generation of air traffic services. With over 1,000 m² of dedicated space and immediate access to operational controllers, it offers a uniquely realistic and adaptable research environment.

Overview

This film gives you an overview of our simulation hall, showcasing both the external and internal rigs. You’ll also see our tower simulator, as well as the pilot simulator currently under development.

Simulators

Internal Simulator Rig

Our 16 internal controller positions are designed for full-scope air traffic simulations. Located adjacent to the operational environment, they enable realistic and responsive testing – with immediate access to active ATCOs for rapid feedback.

External Simulator Rig

The 16 external positions allow for remote collaboration and system integration. Thanks to open APIs, remote partners can participate in simulations without being on-site – ideal for joint projects and international research.

High-Fidelity Tower Simulator

Our integrated tower simulator features panoramic screens and an external rig to simulate complex airport environments. The system supports collaborative scenarios with remote units and is perfectly suited for cross-border validation, drone operations, and future airport concepts.

Cross-Domain Simulation

LFV R&D Centre is developing a new generation of advanced simulation platforms where aviation, rail, maritime, and drone systems can be tested together in a shared, realistic environment. This integrated approach enables analysis of cross-sector interactions and supports civil preparedness, urban air mobility, and the safe, efficient introduction of emerging transport technologies.

Technology and Infrastructure

Our server environment is designed for complex simulations, AI processing, and multi-user operations. Built-in logging systems track key metrics like fuel burn, delays, and controller performance – enabling real-time evaluation and post-simulation analysis.

Briefing room

Our dedicated briefing room features a large screen used for walkthroughs, presentations, and team planning before and after simulation exercises. It supports collaboration and debriefing to enhance training effectiveness.

Innovation Lab

In our innovation lab, we explore how AI, automation, and advanced simulation shape the future of air traffic and mobility. Using virtual reality, we develop new training methods and study drone support for airport operations.

Facilities and Atmosphere

Beyond technology, our centre offers a creative space for collaboration, events, and joint projects. From dedicated briefing rooms to our 100-seat auditorium and social spaces, every corner is built to support dialogue, exploration, and forward thinking.
