Såtenäs

F7 Såtenäs is famous for being the first Air Force base to have JAS 39 Gripen. Såtenäs was also the first to receive the B16, B17, Tp84 Hercules (first in Europe) as well as AJ37. The geographical location of the base beside Lake Vänern provides access to training airspace. The Såtenäs garrison has four divisions, 3 JAS 39 and a Tp84 division. Besides these there are also veteran flights, helicopter and liaison flights using the SK60 at the Airport.

Air traffic management involves 13 air traffic controllers who are responsible for tower and radar control services. Within the terminal area* there are two civilian airports – Trollhättan and Lidköping which receive approach assistance from ATS Såtenäs during weekdays.

Training of non-Swedish pilots on JAS 39 also occurs at the Airport.

Såtenäs garrison employs about 900 people, 700 of which are employed by F7 and the remainder work for the LFV Group, FM LOG FortV to name but a few.

*Covers an area of about 35-40 km radius form Såtenäs up to 2900 metres.
